Ballet Egyptien

--> My friend Ju made an inheritage of an old academy of music. So this wonderful gramophone came to her. During my last visit we checked out if it works – and it does! So we were listening to the “Ballet Egyptien” from Alexandre Clement Leon Joseph Luigini, played by the Orch. Symphonique Edison Bell under the direction of J. Sieulle. Here we go:

Ray Gun

It does what it says on the tin.  Pressed tin Ray Gun from the 50's or 60's .  Flint on rotating emery disc inside makes a pleasing sparky noise.  We have a few in our collection.  I will post more as I find them.

Fresh Eggs Vendor

Another kind of "Kinetic Art":
I found this „Fresh Eggs Vendor“ in a lovely region called „Bergisches Land“, and I´ve never saw this before. First you have to choose how many eggs you like to buy next the shelf number. Then you have to feed it with your money and the door opens. I´m sorry to say but the only thing is: It did not cackle!

Vibrating Pictures

Once again I´ve been to the exhibition „Vibrating Pictures Noise Skulputeres – A Homage to Paul Wember“ in the Museum House Esters – here you can read more about the exhibition. House Esters was created by the popular architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and it´s gorgeous! The exhibition is so, too! You can see kinetic art-objects, three-dimensional light pieces created by for example Jean Tinguely, Heinz Mack, Günther Uecker. Most of all I had some fun with the „Tableau Tactile Sonore“ by Yaakov Agam. So I made a little video with my friend Ms. Kangoo I would like to share with you:

Magic Image Projector

I couldn't find the pantograph but found another Magic Image projector similar to the Graphoscope - the box isn't quite as nice but fun all the same. It works in a similar fashion too with a prism on a folding arm you look into. A simple trick of the light!

Let´s Disco!

Hello everyone! I´m glad to be part of this new blog – and thank you Michael for inviting me!
My name is Sabine Remy, I´m living in Germany (and my specialitiy is my „funny english“). My heart is set on collage. That´s why my motto is „I cut therefore I am!“ Among other things I´m inspired by findings and music, for example Chris Joss´s album „You´ve been spiked“. Here´s a video that I like: "Discotheque Dancing"

(Tze tze - first post and I´ve forgotten the title!)

See and Draw Copier

I saw Michael's cool Graphoscope and wanted to share the one in my collection.  I also have another similar toy, but it's a clown that draws for you.  Panto, I think is his name.  I've never tried this thing.  I'm sure it gives you a bad shadowy image to copy.  I'll have to give it a try.

Graphoscope

Hazel has been clearing out some cupboards in a Spring cleaning frenzy today and found this old toy. The sides of the box say" You can draw your family, friends, anything - from REAL LIFE - like an artist - the very first time!"   " Have Fun! Be Popular!"  "Draw any person in one minute!"  "No lessons! No talent!"

Collagomat

A strange German collage maker app. that I just found on Flickr.  It's fun seeing what bits of body float up from the bottom of the screen. Not sure how you adjust them or even if you can ?   Can you even save your picture once it's done?  If you figure it out let me know!  You can find it HERE.

This is a short 3.30 radio show called "Trevor In Space" part 1, I had to make a video because it doesn't look like I can post mp3 here.

Wishy-Washy

souvenir photo, circa 1940s

Hello everyone!  Thank you to Michael for inviting me to be part of this blog.  My name is Angelica Paez and I am a vintage photo collector and collagist, but I also like ephemera and all sorts of old, odd junk.  I'll be digging deep in the vault for fun and interesting things to post. Until then!

Peter Sellers

I was lucky enough to find this 4 LP set of Peter Sellers called The Voice Behind The Mask the other day in a charity shop. I think I have most of the tracks on various other CD's and records but I just couldnt resist as it was in a nice presentation box. The book that was originally enclosed wasn't inside alas but that hardly matters.  Two sides to give you a taste of the whole thing  - the wonderful Goon Show which has been a favourite from childhood and still makes me chuckle - that great Irene Handl sketch "Shadows In The Grass", his version of a Hard Day's Night done in mock Shakespeare style  and other delights.

Wikipedia says -  "Peter Sellers, CBE (born Richard Henry Sellers; 8 September 1925 – 24 July 1980), was a British film actor, comedian and singer. He appeared in the BBC Radio comedy series The Goon Show, featured on a number of hit comic songs and became known to a world-wide audience through his many film characterisations, among them Chief Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther series of films.
Born in Portsmouth, Sellers made his stage debut at the Kings Theatre, Southsea, when he was two weeks old. He began accompanying his parents in a variety act that toured the provincial theatres. He first worked as a drummer and toured around England as a member of the Entertainments National Service Association. He developed his mimicry and improvisational skills during a spell in Ralph Reader's wartime Gang Show entertainment troupe, which toured Britain and the Far East. After the war, Sellers made his radio debut in ShowTime, and eventually became a regular performer on various BBC radio shows. During the early 1950s, Sellers, along with Spike MilliganHarry Secombe and Michael Bentine, took part in the successful radio series The Goon Show, which ended in 1960.
Sellers began as a film actor in the 1950s. Although the bulk of his work was comedic-based, often parodying characters of authority such as military officers or policemen, he also performed in other film genres and roles. Notable films demonstrating his artistic range include I'm All Right Jack(1959); Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962) and Dr. Strangelove (1964); What's New, Pussycat? (1965); Casino Royale (1967); The Party (1968); Being There (1979) and the five films of the Pink Panther series (1963–1978). Sellers's versatility enabled him to portray a wide range of comic characters using different accents and guises, and he would often assume multiple roles within the same film, frequently with contrasting temperaments and styles. Satire and black humour were major features of many of his films, and his performances had a strong influence on a number of later comedians. Sellers garnered much critical acclaim for his work; he was nominated three times for an Academy Award, twice for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performances in Dr. Strangelove and Being There, and once for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film (1960). He won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role twice, for I'm All Right Jack and for the original Pink Panther film, The Pink Panther (1963) and was nominated as Best Actor three times. In 1980 he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his role in Being There, and also earned three other Golden Globe nominations in the same category.Turner Classic Movies calls Sellers, "one of the most accomplished comic actors of the late 20th century."

Here is a picture of some chums, I thought I'd add this before I dip into the world of music and other interests all over the place, I'm hopefully going to help them make a video too - I'll post if that happens.

John Peel

To illustrate this link for John Peel's Record Collection I have chosen again this letter what he sent me back in 1973 when I was living in France and feeling very homesick.  One of the nicest things on the radio was John's show which we could just about hear if the wind was blowing in the right direction. It helped keep me in touch with the mother land and what was going on in the wonderful world of indie rock/pop or whatever it was called back then. Punk hadnt yet happened and I imagine it was still Led Zep and Roxy Music and Bowie dominating the "festive 50".  Anyway, I wrote Peel and fan letter, telling him about the bones we found dug up from the graveyard next door to the old Presbytere we lived in.  Yes, "hardly British" indeed!

Welcome too

Welcome too from me Big Al Davies (or Bailey) - happy to be here and will try and post many days a week.
